What makes the ReSTOR lens so unique?
The ReSTOR lens is gaining widespread popularity for its unique vision features.  ReSTOR utilizes state-of-the-art apodized diffractive technology to combine the power of two lenses, one for distance, and one for near vision.  In choosing the ReSTOR lens as the replacement IOL following cataract surgery, patients can take advantage of amazing optic technology which allows them to focus between near and far vision with ease.  The ReSTOR lens has the differentiation of performing at a higher level than other multifocal implants in clinical trials.

How does Apodized Diffractive technology work?
The ReSTOR lens utilizes apodized diffractive technology at the center of the lens for ultimate vision improvement.  Apodization refers to a feature that allows the ReSTOR lens to successfully diffract light in order to allow patients to accommodate vision at all distances seamlessly.  Diffraction refers to the manipulation or redirection of light passing through the lens to allow light to focus on the retina correctly.

Is coverage available under Medicare for the ReSTOR procedure?
For qualifying patients, Medicare now recognizes ReSTOR lens as an option following cataract surgery.  There may be additional fees, but the cataract surgery will be covered in some capacity.  If the patient is having the procedure merely for Presbyopia and not cataract surgery, it is considered elective and will not be covered.

Am I a good candidate for the ReSTOR lens?
Patients with cataract development and/or Presbyopia may benefit from the ReSTOR procedure.  ReSTOR can provide improvements in near, intermediate and distance vision to patients who qualify.  Ideal ReSTOR patients should be free of eye disease, have good general health, have no systemic disease or diabetes, and have no previous history of cataract surgery. This procedure is not recommended for airline pilots, patients with glare problems, or patients whose work involves regular night driving. Patients who have had laser eye surgery such as LASIK may be able to benefit from a ReSTOR implant.  During your personal eye evaluation, Dr. Berg or Dr. Feinfield will perform a thorough eye evaluation and let you know if you can benefit from the ReSTOR procedure.
